• Board Nominations

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

It is that time of year again.  There are three (3) members of the Board of Directors that will be rolling off as of October 31, 2020.  They are April Schick – Vice President; Jennifer Duncan and Howard Redmon.  Meaning we have three open seats on the Board of Directors.

You are a "voting" member of the Chamber.  Each company or contributor membership you hold gets one (1) vote when the ballots are sent out.  If you are receiving this email more than once, it is because your email address is showing as primary representative for more than one active membership at the Chamber.  You are allowed one vote per active membership.  If you have any questions, please give us a call at (828) 625-2725.

By Sunday, October 4, 2020, we need your submissions of possible candidates to serve on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge.  All candidates must be active members in good standing (dues up to date) of the Chamber.  The nominating committee can confirm if you have any questions.

Candidates with the following areas of expertise are needed – public relations/marketing, economic development, project management, events, and community service.

Please send your nominations to info@hickorynutchamber.org by email by Sunday, October 4, with the following:
    Candidate's Full Name
    Email Address
    Phone Number
Brief sentence of support - why you think they would be a good director
Confirmation you spoke with the candidate and they are willing to discuss serving on the Board.

Again, we need your submissions in writing (sending to info@hickorynutchamber.org via email or in writing by mailing to P.O. Box 32, Chimney Rock, NC 28720 – must be postmarked by deadline) deadline is Sunday, October 4, 2020.  We cannot accept verbal submissions.

For full transparency, there is a strict process dictated by our bylaws that govern us and the annual nomination and election process.  Read below on what to expect:

    • President appoints Nominating Committee - consists of 3 board members and 2 active Chamber members.  President will appoint the Chairperson of this committee.  President is not permitted to serve on the Nominating Committee.
    • Executive Director is required to send out communication to entire membership of upcoming vacancies and ask for submissions of eligible candidates.  Eligible candidates must be Chamber members in good standing.  Executive Director will create a slate of names from the general membership's responses.
    • The Nominating Committee shall present to the President, a slate of 4 or 5 candidates they recommend to serve.
    • President will communicate Nominating Committee’s recommendations to primary members and they have the right of petition within 10 business days of the notice.
    • After those 10 days, if there is no right of petition, the nomination is closed and the nominated slate of 4 to 5 candidates shall be declared elected for vote by the BOD.
    • Ballots are created and sent out via email, with names in alphabetical order with instructions on how many to vote to fill the vacancies (which will be 3 this year).  Each ballot must show a selection of 3 candidates to be counted.  Ballots containing less than three selections will be disqualified. Ballots will be sent out via email and must be returned within 7 days to be counted.  Ballots can be mailed (P.O. Box 32, Chimney Rock, NC 28720) or by replying to email.  Deadline for voting will be posted in the email and on the ballot. Mailed in ballots must be postmarked by posted deadline on ballot.
    • At the first BOD meeting after voting deadline, the BOD will count and declare the three (3) elected candidates with the greatest number of votes as “elected”.  All ballots shall be retained for a period of 30 days.

We recognize this is always a tight timeline.  We need your full support to look for the communications and respond by the deadlines.  As always, thank you for your continued support of our Chamber!
